Who has been in grad school for just 5 months and already posted his first paper in Hawaii (2nd overall)? Jason Hinkle! The paper reveals a new relationship for stars being ripped apart by black holes! He even has an aloha brief video describing it:

We are honored to report that ASAS-SN project has been awarded the 2020 Beatrice M. Tinsley Prize! While awarded by name to Chris Kochanek and Kris Stanek (both ), ASAS-SN is very much a collaborative effort!

Please check out my first paper as a member of the ASAS-SN team: Peak-Luminosity/Decline-Rate Relationship for Tidal Disruption Events (). I also made a brief video summarizing the paper!

First ASAS-SN paper of 2020 posted on astro-ph! "Peak-Luminosity/Decline-Rate Relationship for Tidal Disruption Events" by grad student Jason Hinkle, Tom Holoien, , , and others: Very exciting result, in our (unbiased) opinion!

The protesters are piling up trash on Maunakea and leaving abandoned structures. On Conservation District land (same designation as TMT). Without a permit for any of this.

"Zachy's Star" (e.g., ) continues to misbehave (the most recent ASAS-SN data are a bit noisy due to the bright Moon).

J0600, aka "Zachy's star" has been keeping several observers very busy over the past three weeks - long story short, I'm suspecting dust disk: here's reprocessed and data in g' band - look at those sharp turns! 1/n

I suspected that the near-simultaneous arrival of gravitational waves and photons for GW 170817 *required* gravitational wave deflection. So we (Istvan Szapudi, , and ) set out to reproduce Eddington et al.'s test, but using gravitational waves.

The biggest news from has been the presence of Hawaiian TMT supporters -- astronomers and non-astronomers -- at the meeting who have made their voices heard. We expected demonstrations. We did not expect them to come from TMT supporters.

More science at : Subhash Bose tells us about ASASSN-16at, an otherwise normal Type II supernova that shows double-peaked spectral features at late times, indicating a strongly asymmetric inner region.
