When you put related code together, you get to *choose* the order that people read the code, and you can optimize it for understanding. One Class Per File is ceding this order to what is effectively randomness, instead of Thoughtfulness

TIL `var (x, y): (Int, Int)` is 100% legal Swift. Why this is desirable in a world where `var x: Int, y: Int` is also valid Swift syntax is a mystery to me.

Excited that ownership + variadic generics will finally be prioritized in Swift 6.

So, the fancy new thing where you open Package.swift and it magically makes an Xcode project for you? It doesn't work with swift-syntax because swift-syntax implicitly depends on part of the Swift Toolchain, and there is seemingly no good way to make SwiftPM aware of this fact

I would love to read like an “the information” style long read on why Apple Music is so buggy and terrible despite being built by one of the richest companies in the world

Tech companies should be required to staff Institutional Review Boards to evaluate experiments they conduct on their users, and to give them the power to block those experiments from being conducted.

"You're the only one responsible for your dependencies" and "Maintainers should treat good-faith contributors with respect" are not mutually exclusive positions

I wonder to what extent flat design taking off enabled the recent surge in new design tools. And are we now locked in to flat design, because modern design tools don't make it easy to add elaborate ornamentation?

Google’s Crashlytics is now open-source! (PR isn’t merged yet, but good enough to start digging in) This is great news for all the 10😅 Mac Catalyst developers out there waiting for a solution on crash reporting.

The best thing about upstate New York is that if you don’t bring your own outdoor cat one will just wander into your land and offer their services to you

if you’re working on infrastructure and you aren’t optimizing to reduce the human misery needed to operate software, you’re building a disservice.

tfw the compiler has a bug and is crashing nondeterministically, someone adds a wrapper around it that restarts it once if it segfaults, and it fails CI and can't land because on that one job, the compiler crashed *twice in a row*

What I would really like is to have rust-style "raw pointers that the compiler guarantees point to something valid for as long as we can reference them" but even the first half of this sentence seems impossible thanks to Swift CoW behavior

I haven't profiled this yet, but I suspect that "Adjacency List" style schemes like storing indices into an array instead of a pointer itself will outperform classes. But this amounts to reinventing pointers, which seems like a bad idea on the face of it
