Taking notes in books is a very, very stupid habit. Why? Because notes on the page of the book remove/impair your ability to view that original work with fresh eyes *forever*. You confine yourself to Cialdini's "commitment/consistency" bias on yourself every time you read.

If so, then taking notes in the books could work better than other strategies depending on your goals. However, I think viewing your old notes after/during a fresh reading (like I describe above) shows you how your thoughts change over time too. They're different optimizations
