Incredible to see ministers making things up like this. The Refugee Convention simply doesn’t say this.

Sorry, it's not credible for the Met to say: we have a few regrets, but overall coronation policing went well. They wrongly locked up the leader of the main republican campaign group on the most relevant day for his cause in decades. That is very bad.

Over the past 20 years the UK population has increased by roughy 10m - that's about the populations of Scotland & Wales combined. Over the past 20 years we have built about 5m new homes. Any solution that doesn't include building a hell of a lot more houses just isn't credible.

Locking up peaceful protestors, arresting women’s safety volunteers and shooting dogs - another great couple of days for the Met

This evening all six have had their bail cancelled and no further action will be taken. We regret that those six people arrested were unable to join the wider group of protesters in Trafalgar Square and elsewhere on the procession route. news.met.police.uk/news/update-ar

@BenKentish on LBC has done more to highlight the housing emergency over the last year than the entire British media have for a decade. He is awesome. Well done Ben. I feel passionately about this issue. Please don’t stop calling out the disgraceful system that exists.

Suggestions of losing 1,000 councillors was Tory expectation management - they thought it would be less. Instead they’ve lost more, with 4 councils still counting. Perhaps most worryingly for the Tories, they’ve been hit right across the country: Blue Wall, Red Wall & in between.

Lab will be buoyed by the clear anti-Tory vote we’re seeing in these results. There’s no sign at all today of Rishi Sunak having revived his party’s fortunes. These results are dire for them. Scotland + tactical voting likely to be key. Lab well-placed but a lot more work to do.

Want to see BBC projected vote share too but looks like Lab a little shy of where they want to be. Single digit lead not good enough for party hoping to win a majority. BUT remember Scotland exists. Disproportionate seat gains there for Lab would make a difference.

Results so far seem to confirm the current consensus among many pollsters: There’s a lot of anger at the Tories but not a groundswell of enthusiasm about Labour. 20-point leads for Labour are overblown. Labour is currently on course to victory - but a very narrow one.
