Just based off of my memory of doing field there in 10 (We thought Harris would lose): -Cooley was the fmr LA County DA and pretty popular in So Cal - Her stance on the death penalty was very, very unpopular at the time

- A bunch of bigots wanted Prop 8 defended in court. Cooley pledged to do it. - Fiorina spent a ton of money on the Boxer race and was pretty successful at getting the vote out (considering CA). Other Dems faired much better but this plus midterm turnout didn’t help.

Back in the days the GOP won OC overwhelmingly as well as doing well in SD, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Riverside. Also tying Sac wouldn’t happen today as well as being competitive in the bay, I swear Cooley was tied with Harris in my neck of the woods (tri valley)
