An unprecedented coalition of organisations representing more than half a million Scottish members is calling for rampantly out of control deer numbers across the Highlands to be reduced. People want nature recovery on a grand scale and it’s coming.

Thanks but no thanks 🤷‍♂️ Hormone treated beef is illegal to produce in 🇬🇧 and our consumers don’t want it. This is our chance to construct an environmentally & economically food system - not enter the world’s bargain basement .

in Ireland, the extinction crisis is green: 1) green fields are sterile and simple. each was created through the destruction of a complex wood, bog or meadow that came before. their simplicity is maintained with herbicide and by overloading the soil with nitrates and phosphates

How many times have you been told that Scotland’s Highland glens are meant to look like this👇, treeless, bare and mostly lifeless? This fabled landscape was utterly stripped of its nature not so long ago at all. Time for restoration.

Enlightened farmers are so often a tremendous force for good. Many are now lining up to reintroduce beavers to the rivers and streams that run through their farms, recognising the essential magic beavers create in the landscape.

Sometimes London's Lost Rivers are found. This is urban rewilding. Firs Farm was a bland park & bumpy football pitches. Moore Brook was trapped in a pipe. Thanks to it's now a glorious wetland. The football pitches are smooth. Flood risk cut.

The National Trust deserve respect. They have shown leadership. Taking land out of wasteful use to restore river corridors. Helping. Yes helping the reintroduction of beavers however humbly. As a big organisation they have reached out. They are trying. Thank you so much. D

Amidst the noise of Brexit you may have missed that quietly the team has been drawing up a UK Environment Bill of immense ambition. Once it passes this year we’ll have the best environmental law of any country on Earth. 👏

Fantastic aspiration for the new decade to restore England's upland wilderness. Blanket bogs are England's 'rainforest', storing carbon, reducing flood risk and supporting wonderful biodiversity

Ten personal thoughts on the presidency/process, drawing on observations and lessons learned from the past 10+ years or so of following the COP process in various guises (government; adviser; researcher), beginning in the run-up to Copenhagen in early 2009:

I honestly don’t have the words to express how much this hurts. As someone who almost died as a result of this hits me so hard. Dear world please let’s and let’s hold these African leaders accountable for this BS.

Some positive news! A million trees are being planted alongside rivers in the Cairngorms to help tackle declining salmon stocks. The trees will line the tributaries of the Dee & provide shade to help keep river temps down which can affect young salmon.
