    Our curatorial and conservation team with some brilliant volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes on the collection from the Hall. Just another aspect of the Belsay Awakes project!

    , Day 10, Wood. When came into Guardianship, wet and dry rot meant many wooden doors, shutters, panels and more had to be stripped out. Ahead of the Belsay Awakes Project, and I have been cleaning all these items with great vols!

    Did you know we have collections stored on site from the Hall, Castle and the wider estate? They help us learn more about activity across the site. This top half of a millstone, for grinding grain is around 80cm in diameter and may have been turned by hand

    Our collections and conservation team have been hard at work the last few months cleaning items in our store rooms ahead of the roofworks. They've found graffiti on doors, shutters and even the back of dado rails. There is lots in the Hall itself, so keep your eyes peeled
