Hey, so I need a new computer, and I also need to move away from Macs since they are buggy with PTRs. I'd also like to stream things like beta exploration more so I can share the fun in discovering article info. I'm also bad at picking out computers. Anyone have some recs?

Both the i9 and Threadrippers are the same sort of chips - lots of cores with a slower clock. Us gaming content creators have it tough; we need the clock for game performance and the cores for creation.

We don't need the cores for creation. For the most part. Most NLE's are not well optimised for multicore.

I don't know, I'd really like to be able to edit 1080 video without my Premier freezing every 5 seconds

Basically performance gains & multitasking gains do exist, but the price / performance really tanks. I'd probably go for an 8700k and invest the extra $$$ in SSDs & building an optimised workflow.

The main cause of hitching on your timeline is probably down to using h.264 intead of an intermediary like Cineform. Great video on the topichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ96fLCGFRw …

That IS a good video, and I know it scales but they're still using over 10 cores in their example right? But will totally look working something like that, thanks!

Check out the Puget Systems articles - great benchmarks on the performance

Oh totally. But when you're dropping £X,000 on a new system suddenly an extra £5-600 extra to get the EVEN BETTERER doesn't seem so out there

Be sure to expand to the 1080p benchmarks. Gains in 8k will not be reflected in a straightforward 1080 to 1080 workflow
