Part of the reason why we need so many catchup mechanics is that the scaling is so insanely high. What 10x over an expansion? I'll have to break down how the stat scaling operates too.

you mean stat gain per ilvl? that is a bit more complex dew to diminishing returns by now. but just take this: base stats (stam + str/agi/int) double every 73-74 ilvls. ~0,931275% per ilvl. exponential scaling. so having 220 ilvls over an entire xpac gives you factor 8.
