Nah Han had payoff because of "I love you", "I Know". Plot didnt matter, recognising their feelings for each-other did.

as for what's unique to games... I guess That Game Company (Journey, etc), Brothers etc are doing that stuff.

Thoughts jump to Naughty Dog but they're really just doing the traditional formula but using games as an emphasiser to really immerse
