Games are interesting: we ask of them outstanding gameplay, but also to be Hollywood grade movies (music, script, acting...) on top of that.

I doubt any game achieves as much in as many areas as WoW does. Some at better at some things, but WoW does almost everything (pretty well).

Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed 2 among them.

Those games much "smaller" than WoW. The instanced multiplayer aspects (dungeons, raids, battlegrounds) alone are all "full games", IN WoW.

Not to mention 11 class designs, Pet Battles, professions, inventory, addons, server infrastructure, social constructs... Oh, and levelling!

Again, I challenge you to find any game that does as much as WoW does. And on top of that, it has to do cinematic level storytelling... :)

the issue on story telling, isn't wow realted. you can't hide behind thousands of 'games in the game" for diablo 3 and starcraft 2.

I think Starcraft 2 does the best overall (dat LoTV ending though), but yeah Diablo's is weak.

(I was very desapointed by LoTV, and the illidan story taste a lot like kerrigan's fate)

I really liked how they subverted expectations at the start, but got more dissatisfied as it went on. A haircut for a finale >.<
