Not only that, it may be 12 million, but doesn't feel like it. At least not on EU servers. Back in its former prime, server-population issues weren't as crazy as they are now. It was more spread out. Now you got dead vs full servers, and blizz isn't managing their population..
They did a great job with merges, but stopped those prematurely. They promised more in September, that never came. Plenty of servers that used to be High in Wotlk/WoD are now dead. Sadly no big YouTuber or Streamer ever cover this problem in WoW...

Yea I don't believe it for a second, shadowlands is the first expansion in 14 years I haven't bought or even wanted to play, thats how bad it's PR is and how sick I am of activision's bullshit.
The fact that after 2 weeks I’m still getting consistent server queues, says even if it’s not 12 million, a HELL of a lot of people are playing this game compared to the past I would argue 3 expansions
