Like, in War3, the Dreadlords were clearly demon agents of the Burning Legion. Yet we now know that isn’t really the case. The Jailor was almost in the helm, having great influence over even Nerzhul. It’s interesting how this stuff is debunked by War3 technically, but how...

...modern era lore is more canonical than War3 era. I suppose it’s all down to how Metzen and co had no conception just for far & for how long the Warcraft story would go.

I see it as expanding the writing. When you get new or more ideas, the old games/old books won't reflect it until they're remade/reprinted. It's why I tell people take the Chronicles with a grain of salt as they'll be outdated in 15 years too.

Did Ner'Zhul ever wear it? I thought he was a spirit bound to it. Like slapping a tortured Alexa onto a supercomputer, just to act as an interface. Was easily banished by arthas then when he assumed control from him.

Arthas did not banish Ner'Zhul when he put the helm on. Their essences merged into one with both of their characteristics showing in the new form.

I don't really think it's conflicting, so much as just testament to the skill of the Dreadlords and how well they fooled everyone. It's not changed any of their actions or any of the events that took place, it's all purely motivational changes behind the scenes. (I love it, too)
-
Yeah, it just goes to show that not many people actually know what "retcon" means, but they like to throw it around anyway.

Dreadlords may end up having their Ba Sing Se moment and turn out to be sleeper agents of the Jailor sent to infiltrate the Burning Legion, a universe wide cleansing is gonna provide a ton of souls to the Shadowlands, tipping the balance of power scales massively in their favour
