Very mixed reaction to this - interesting! Seems to me that cosmic stuff has a rather middling hitrate with audiences. Perhaps much feels very removed from & not relevant to the more grounded settings that people easily relate to?https://twitter.com/BellularGaming/status/1292478130196811779 …

I've never gotten too deep into the lore so keep that in mind with this but it just feels so removed from what WoW initially felt like to me back in vanilla. I wish eastern king and Kal were more relevant.

It's neat, but not emotionally resonant. I still want intimate storytelling.

Its more like the things that are happening in a far distant universe must have some connection with Azeroth or known characters and already stabilished lore, Jailer for example has very weak connections to past characters imo

Youtubers, bloggers, and hippies. The cosmic stuff is great to delve into but I feel like the deciding factor is how much it ties into and affects players’ daily lives.

Cosmic stuff is always fine, what pulls me into the WoW lore is the character narrative, often when they're pitted against a grander picture. So, if Shadowlands has moments like Anduin getting to see Varian again, sure, sounds like a strong moment.

From comics to films to videogames, I've just been grossly oversaturated with "bigger picture" scenarios. If the past attempts of building an expansion on base human pettiness and political hostilities hadn't been so unsatisfying, I'd tell them to pursue exactly that.

Ah exactly this! I didn’t realise what was so unsatisfying about the big picture epic stories but, yeah! Total oversaturation. Feels like the kind of thing thats hard to come down from though - like, how mundane did a faction war seem after all the events of Legion*.

Personally Shadowlands is still too grounded. I need Argus kind of disco ship space travel kind of things ! :)
