Bell buddy you gotta actually explain, you cant just use buzzwords of "level design" and "scale" how do these effect things? Flying ruins scale, because it makes the world seem smaller. Level design? So just... making areas you cant get to without flying?

and "You could only tackle it because of flying" so making a zone that without flying is very annoying if not impossible to traverse... Which is funny cause flying made icecrown pitiful, it was such a cool zone, but with flying made it seem small and the armies weak.

You can argue that back then you had actual level difference from 70-80. But I wouldn't consider every other zone as not dangerous and inhospitable. Same would go for Deepholme imo even though the sightseeing aspect from above ground was more impressive than anything else.

And in Icecrown it's more about accessability. There are no real paths to any location so you always walk through mob areas unlike on roads etc.
