Again... they would just need to add custom animations. All they would have to do is work with the animation team better. Sure they could make the tools guys develop a new system, but that wouldn’t be practical and would take a lot of memory because they’re live rendering.

Uh that’s not really how it works on the memory thing. Whole point is the animators don’t have the extra capacity - I assume in this case esp they’re working on 9x content. Pre rendered of both forms are a separate team entirely

With the amount of in game cutscenes they use these days, one would think they'd invest in tech that actually allows them to properly cinematically animate characters in engine.

At this point the IGCs should be closer to this in character animation than what they currently are.https://youtu.be/VcTqPIrbsWM

Probably a placeholder cutscene

If they want to do real time cutscenes like that, man they need to match what FFXIV can do. What Blizzard can do as a pre-rendered cutscene FFXIV can match entirely in-game and real time. I just don't think WoW should do them at all because they will always be subpar.

Could you link me a good example of a Shadowbringers cinematic? Realistically I won't get the chance to play it, and I'd like to see the quality bar they're setting.

The system just fine when certain techniques like going over the shoulder while the person is talking are used to hide the lack of lip sync which is a huge thing that hurts immersion for western audiences. Blizzard's standard for overly expressive animations also are a problem

whenever Sylvanas talks in-game especially in the Battle for Lordaeron cutscene the animations for belfs just aren't built to be that open ended where humans have a better time being a bit more static. If this is something they intend on doing more and more we need improvements.

I honestly can't handle watching the cinematics done like this, the lack of lip sync is so painful I would rather the characters faces not move at all than just open and close their jaw.
