Technically speaking, Blizzard have sold toys and helms as microtransactions so far. RAF adds Transmog ensembles, enchants & titles.I think it's clear they're testing. They see that juicy FFXIV money. Just as that game has it's superfans, so does WoW, and they'll pay up.https://twitter.com/BobbyBVEVO/status/1172922246278418432 …

Do you think it's the same spiel as given to investors that goes down well, so they see how the general public sees it?

You could argue Blizzard did it since early Vanilla with things like the TCG pets (which are pretty costly). To me this system feels like Blizzard figuring out to make recruit-a-friend more attractive to both the new player and the recruiter, especially the recruiter.

I think people also need to remember we have had microtransaction items since vanilla. The vanilla collectors edition a perfect example, you gotta pay blizz extra money for these pets. even more now with classic. Same with the TCG rewards being basically loot boxes.

I do think ffxiv has some pretty intense cash shop items but personally my gripe about Wow is all the cool mounts come from the shop. Om Ffxiv there was still mounts and stuff in game that were on par with the cash shop items.

If your game has a subscription I think it should work like ESO, give you currency to buy shop items at some point and items in the shop shouldn't be that better than game items. Which is what FFXIV does, mounts/tmog in-shop aren't that better than what's ingame.

And if Blizzard PR doesn't care, then let their game popularity go down. You don't win in the longterm by alienating your players. Moreover with goverments acting agaisn't lootboxes, I foresee in the near futur more of laws to set standards with how you sell stuff in video games

I think people would be willing to stomach this if they didn't have to pay a sub fee. If
@Warcraft went pay for the game and expansions but play time was free with non-PTW microtransactions ie mounts, pets, transmogs people would be fine with it. But having to pay to play +? no.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It's not Blizzard anymore. It's Bobby Kotick and Activision that dictate the business model now. I think it's garbage that these companies charge a sub and have MTX to the max. One or the other.

This is spin. The health of the game is literally subscriber loss vs acquisition (not re-acquisition)
