Technically speaking, Blizzard have sold toys and helms as microtransactions so far. RAF adds Transmog ensembles, enchants & titles.I think it's clear they're testing. They see that juicy FFXIV money. Just as that game has it's superfans, so does WoW, and they'll pay up.https://twitter.com/BobbyBVEVO/status/1172922246278418432 …

The evolving business model of WoW certainly is interesting. Remember, Blizzard PR told me to tell you that subscribers aren't a great measure of the games health - this is the implication of that. ...I did tell 'em that the optics on that statement aren't good, but here we are!

I play both games and the XIV community is generally lovely but hyper defensive. Good luck

I think people defend the FFXIV Store because the game isn't bad unlike WoW. Also you can really see in all the Q&A streams how passionated the FFXIV devs are. So people want to support them as much as they can and buy the cosmetics in the store.

The Story writer of Shadowbringers also got standing ovations at PAX because the Story was so insanely well written https://clips.twitch.tv/BlindingWrongElkBCouch … . The FFXIV Community really loves the dev team and their game.

Expecting Blizzard to give out something that was handmade for an event for FREE is the equivalent of telling them to break both of their legs at this point.

The deal with FFXIV is that they constantly do things right by the players, the coolest stuff you can obtain is strictly in the game and some less-cool things are in the store. But with Blizz, they put some of the cooler mounts up for sale when they could've been raid mounts.

Not to mention that Square keeps doing right by their fans. If blizz respected their fans the same way, then they wouldn't have minded it as much. Nobody cared about the store when Blizzard was doing right by the players, but now that things are bad, yeah, people won't be happy

A lot of people get defensive likely because the developer-player bond is actually really high in FFXIV. They don't feel incredibly out of touch and money-hungry like Blizzard. The thing is, FFXIV is pleasing it's fanbase so they get more leeway from the community ->

for things in the store. If I felt like I was getting what I wanted in the game / expansion pack, I don't mind getting things in the store. If the game / expansion feels lacking, then additions to the store feel insulting and ultimately feel like cut content.

Yes the difference is that baseline FFXIV has a ton of cosmetics that you earn in the game. If WoW sold hairstyles for instance it would make me mad because the baseline of what they are offering is so poor.
