Regarding the WHO game addiction disease decision: To me, it has always seemed that any psychologically engaging activity can lead to behavior that's typical of addiction. Singling out games is interesting - I'd say they're better at engaging the brain than the competition.

Yeah this is pretty much entirely a good thing especially since so many games incorporate psychological addiction hooks taken right out of the hard science of gambling machine design. It's all a mechanism to exploit an addiction and this is an acknowledgment of that and more
-
But yeah as for laws regarding disability a legislative body would need to recognize it, the WHO can't make laws so realistically this effects nothing regarding any kind of laws. All this is ultimately is another mechanism to legislate against exploitation and getting ppl help

Big brain disability check for crippling game addiction to get money to buy more games.

Nothing unless adopted by legislative bodies in some capacity. In that case, it could have some effect depending heavily on facts. Ex. Employer knows that is the reason worker can’t come to work and knows of condition but fires them. Could give rise to wrongful termination etc.
-
Keep in mind depending where you are/ what legal system the country has you may need a jury to buy it. Depends a lot on how law would be written and how it would fit into preexisting labor regimes

Maybe we are on a path to gaming addiction being a disability that employers must accommodate...

Categorisation as a disease, from a psychological perspective, allows much easier access to treatment as well as government assistance. An example is with Aspergers and autism. The two used to be separate but governments wouldnt give benefits to Aspergers so it was reclassified
