So I think that mentioning those things is important when bringing up the Iwata example - which to be clear, is something I didn’t think to do in my earlier coverage.

I’m unsure on how that changes the act of kindness though, nor any context?

This isn't a demonization of Iwata, or his actions during one of Nintendo's financial downturns. But people are somehow holding up Iwata as a reason we should be "more like the Japanese." That is a terrible idea. Japanese don't have work/life balance. They have work balance.

no we have not but we cant forget either that Iwata voluntarily halved his salary both in 2011 and 2014 instead of fire a bunch of ppl. ( and many other on the board voluntarily cut there salary by 30% in both 2011 and 2014.

ppl like Jim sterling have critised japaniese companies how they treats there workers.

Ultimately I think that we should be looking at it as more of a standard considering his direct responsibilities, rather than praising as much. It’s like praising a farmer for not eating his family after poisoning his own fields.

The job for life salaryman culture in Japan has largely vanished in the last 20 years. They have a much more US-style employment culture now, where people are disposable assets.

Iwata did good but didn't they also have layoffs ? https://kotaku.com/nintendo-of-europe-will-lay-off-320-people-this-month-1627924242 … The layoffs were in Europe but still :? They did handled it better than Activision, that is true.

I think you're missing the point completely. I haven't seen anyone worshiping Japanese corporate culture. I have seen examples of one man from one company who did what he thought was best for his company and workers.

I think that's reasonable but the fact is that if he wanted to Bobby and the rest could take a 50% pay cut and still be better off financially than any of their employees by a pretty large margin
