You staff for the future, not the past. Firing people is expensive (severance packages etc) so I see this is more admitting a cap on future growth

They once cut 600 at once according to wikipedia, don't know about the # of employees (back then). And then they once layed of a ton of GMs. Or was that the same date?

These are US staff and they are getting severance packages is my@understanding. Probably not a lot they can do

They are increasing development team size by 20% to increase output. May end up being a good thing for the Blizzard gamer if quality doesn't suffer. Seems most / all of these layoffs are support like CSRs, CM etc. Still horrible for them though. :(
