Well I’d have to disagree with you there. I have been covering the Kotaku articles & explaining the basics of how things operate. So unless you also think Schrier is going for the hateclicks...

As for your thread, well mich of it isn’t really relevant to the current wave of leaks, which are covering a recent period of change at Blizzard. So yeah, D4 hasn’t been effected because that’s been in the works for years. Structural Blizzard changes have been last 12 months

I think there's a lot of selective emphasis in those discussions; Schreier's article clearly point out devs are hiring, which is a positive sign. And with no releases, reducing support staff makes sense, & doing it with cash incentives rather than layoffs is really positive too.

Also, the fact they were not forced to release D4 by Activision, to me, means the influence of Activision is not the evil one we're hearing about, if it exists at all. So I don't see what's left beyond vague feelings... and click baity anger mongering. :(

The Activision news is all covering a recent era that’s early 2018 onwards. So there’s no way that would impact D4. All news has pointed to this being a very recent thing. So talking about D4 basically isn’t relevant to it.

I disagree. These changes have been happening in 2018, and Acti could absolutely have said, a few months prior to BlizzCon, "well fuck this, you've been working on D4 for FOUR fucking years, you announce something at BlizzCon and release in 2019, and that's it!". They didn't.

And the "worst" part is, demanding that a game limit its dev time to 4 or 5 years (which is what D4 would have gotten) is beyond reasonable! It would be a normal corporate decision. The fact Blizz is getting another year for it (at least) is a sign they are not being "taken over"

I think taken over is the wrong phrase - at most the changes have been structural, such as finance being represented at lower level meetings. I’m sure some are claiming that bobby is ascending from hell to take over, but I’m definitely not

Again, I don't agree: the financial decisions we're hearing about seem consistent with a dev that has no releases and wants time and ressources to make polished games. I don't see how people interpret it differently, beyond "the culture has changed omg" which means very little...

Well culture change claims are direct from sources. I wouldn’t normally cover it, but Schriers track record has been very solid on the investigative reports. Personally I see it being a tightening of the belt & response to post 2014 Blizzard performance.

Specifically failing to get a Diablo project out the gate, the call cut axe D3 xpack2, low output rate for Overwatch content. In many ways it seems like a response to Blizzard being sloppy.

Agree that low OW content is disappointing (same with HS), but that's a separate conversation. However I don't see how failing to put out D4 is sloppy. It's what they do: they make a game, and if it's not good enough they go back to the drawing bord. That's actually a good thing.

Sloppy from a business pov, as in it would have been better if that didn’t happen. Agree that it’s good to see them not rush something out. Cancelling D3 X2 does seem to have been a bad call though.
