Looks like that 1.7m number might be somewhat accurate

Well they have to do something. The question I have right now is, can wow once more appeal to a larger audience or is the state of the game such that it will only cater to a niche audience?

BfA has lots of content but high friction works against players. So this won’t help them, base issue is the narrowing of appeal through the new systems.

It kinda makes some sense. Trying to get the late adopters on board and the few old players that for one reason or another haven't played in a while.

I'm not sure I would offer a sneak peak at my product to people who are on the fence about buying it until I had fixed all the problems.

If you are a new player, or a returning player who haven't played BFA, their first 3 days will be really fun and you won't notice the "problems" people have with it.

3 days ? Just the time to get a level 120 ready for the next expansion ;)
-
Nah, it's not even that good... the fine print at the bottom of the promo page specifies that... "The trial ends after three hours of game play or after the quest "We Need Each Other" (for Horde) or "A Nation Divided" (for Alliance), whichever comes first."

They did the same around WoD and Pandaria I believe, I got my account flagged for free character boosts and a 14day "welcome back" thing a couple times over the years.
