I'm engaging in the issue, you're not engaging in my sense of humour.

It's pretty hard to work out what is a joke and what isn't - I don't think it helps clarity. That'd be totally different irl ofc. Tone didn't really seem very clear on my end. I'd rather you explained how I was missing your point - learning that is why I'm chatting after all!

Ok I'll explain... I'm not really stabbing a fork in my arm trying to be upset. That was a joke and I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. My point was that I think there are clearer and fairer examples of recent Blizz miscommunication to focus on if that's your beef

I believe the issue here isn't necessarily this specific miscommunication though, It's an additional example in a string of poor communication and design choices. This one just happens to affect quite a large amount of the community and so it makes sense to target it.

I think something like this falls under the whole “betas are not a final product and are subject to change” thing that I thought was universally understood. It wasn’t like they put “MORE ITEMS IN MYTHIC PLUS CHESTS” as a bullet point on the reveal trailer.

well, they did make specific reference to "being more generous with the M+ chest" in a Q and A. Also, the removal of Azerite (and essentially 3 gear slots) from M+ gear progression is a problem that the "generosity" was supposed to counter.

the real issus of course isn't their decision (since it had precedent in Legion). It's the nearly Combative way they came at it and the lack of any forewarning to the communities and websites that have built up around their game. Literally everyone was blindsided by this choice

Oh, okay. Wasn’t aware of all that. People seemed to be simplifying it as “People on beta got three items! I want three items!”

The quote may have (and seems to be) limited to the beta timeframe. But at the time it wasn't clarified one direction or the other. This specific issue means that Azerite (a core piece of the game and essentially the driving system in BfA) is far more limited than expected

Part of me does wonder if the Q&A videos are the best format - they often run out of time, have low quality questions etc. Perhaps it would be more effective to have 'dev update' videos . that are Josh & Ion covering topics based on their read of the community.

Perhaps that would allow for them to have more clear, specific communication that is less prone to the problems that come with things being fuzzy & off the cuff. It'd perhaps put less pressure on Ion to get everything right off the top of his head, which I'm sure he'd like.

A "state of the game" could just as easily return to those blog style posts that they used to do. Deeper looks into systems and the explanations for the choices made therein. (I wouldn't mind) but niche questions do get asked and answered that SOME part of the base cares about.
