Perhaps that would allow for them to have more clear, specific communication that is less prone to the problems that come with things being fuzzy & off the cuff. It'd perhaps put less pressure on Ion to get everything right off the top of his head, which I'm sure he'd like.

A "state of the game" could just as easily return to those blog style posts that they used to do. Deeper looks into systems and the explanations for the choices made therein. (I wouldn't mind) but niche questions do get asked and answered that SOME part of the base cares about.

They give the appearance of taking the customer's pulse more directly than a simple "state of the game". Letting the players feel connected to the dev team is good. It's hard because the communication that comes out needs to be incredibly clear and that's hard in real time.
