Alright, recent discussion has inspired me to work on a video about how to actually enjoy World of Warcraft. Maximising enjoyment while minimising time investment by dealing with the 'work' content efficiently so that you have more time for life.
So often how people feel is a product of the systems in which their life takes place. If those systems are bad, then it can be bad for their life. One thing that correlates with that is loosing ones sense of perspective. Which then hurts the ability to solve the problem.

When I say unethical, that's in a broadly similar way to how a lot of tech companies design their products in a way that's ethically sketchy. For example, the notification refresh system of Twitter is modeled after variable reward schemes.

I would say that they have created an unethical system, but that it wasn't their intent to do so. Humans are very easily manipulated by external stimulus, so when they goal is to increase engagement and retention, it's easy to accidentally do that.
