That’s the problem with trans media narratives. We’re all sitting here talking about stuff that’s interesting, but what’s in game is far more simplistic and with next to none of the player expressing that’s hyping up the online discussion.

We are the small percentage of enthusiasts. We’re pretty much the only people who get anything out of this. I’d worry that average players will encounter many of the downsides, and not have them tempered but the various points raised here.

Admittedly in the context of the War of Thorns and Teldrassil, more clarification was needed in game. Of course, you won't experience the internal monologues you do through books, or the cinematic depth otherwise but in events that hold such gravitas, extra checks are necessary

We're all extremely grateful to have these plot points clarified by this external media but it places a vinegar-soaked plaster on a raw wound. And this isn't the first occassion of such major lore events being backed up and explained tenfold by transmedia.

As an example, Some of us understand the constraints of game dev pipeline (us), others understand how to perceive a narrative thoroughly (Tali etc) so on many different layers this singular event would be perceived innumerable ways until this extra stuff was handed to us

"Why wasnt this in the game?" Maybe the books weren't final-drafted until after the voicelines had been mixed and added to the game. "Why weren't they released sooner?" collectors edition, etc

Al true, none good I’m afraid. Explanation not excuse is what I’d say.

I think in this instance, in comparison to others in the past where lore events have been explained through books etc, the gravity and emotional repercussion outweigh demand this, to an extent. Lack of foresight/planning perhaps, but either way we're still down a tree

What are the metrics of the players who don't check transmedia for lore/cinematics? There are people in guilds i've been in in the past who didn't know a patch, hell even an EXPANSION was out UNTIL IT LAUNCHED, obviously an extreme example but how many wont read these books?

Like, legitimately people logging into the game and asking why the login screen has changed etc. I think *we* as passionate and ravenous consumers of WoW and its transmedia are above that tidemark because we surround ourselves with others who are similar

The books are the tiniest percentage, and funnily enough they have the most important information.
