That’s the problem with trans media narratives. We’re all sitting here talking about stuff that’s interesting, but what’s in game is far more simplistic and with next to none of the player expressing that’s hyping up the online discussion.

We are the small percentage of enthusiasts. We’re pretty much the only people who get anything out of this. I’d worry that average players will encounter many of the downsides, and not have them tempered but the various points raised here.

Me just wish player could become adventurer again and no longer be big hero of faction... Would fix much. Also, must add playable Ogre!

It isn't even an MMO narrative at all since half of it is presented in books and Collector's Edition novellas

... Novellas, and book have plenty of free synopsis online. I don’t think they’re trying to go the FF route and have 30+ minute in game cutscenes while you level through BFA. WoW says here’s the basics in game, these graves in Arathi are explained with more involvement.

With FFXIV you will have to deal with the bulk of the main game being... ok? IT was reworked so it isnt the greatest, but its expansions get really fun and engaging.

I think trans media can work if it’s is s to widen & not deepen. Meaning don’t use it to tell the main story, but use it to provide context by showing an outsider’s perspective. IE how Zekhan was conscripted or interfaction reactions at Order Halls.

I play both wow and GW2, and you will like a lot what GW2 brings to the table. It is be far less a raid/pvp game focus, but more about it's story, it's zone, it's community and exploration. The story is not as fantasy as wow can get, but it's sure is incredible to me
