For my first story , I went to Mexico and got drugs. Specifically, and I went to pharmacies, got pills & tested them. Turns out, some are selling oxy & Adderall over the counter – but the pills are actually fentanyl & meth.

Researchers said the results are "hope-giving" — suggesting, per the authors, that “a combination of more healthy lifestyle factors are associated with a slower rate of memory decline, regardless of the genetic risk.” For tips on healthy aging check out:

The effect they found was cumulative — meaning that the more healthy lifestyle factors a person had, the better off they were (in terms of memory/dementia risk). Most importantly, that held true even for people who are genetically more at risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

As part of the study some 29,000 ppl above the age of 60 were asked about their daily habits, with a focus on six "modifiable lifestyle factors." Here is what a "healthy lifestyle" looked like for each factor:

🧵 I saw a ton of reader interest in my write-up this week of a study that found a link between 6 “healthy lifestyle habits” and a ⬇️ risk of dementia/slower rate of memory decline in a large group of older people in China. Here are the takeaways:

Justin Bieber has sold the rights to his music to a Blackstone-backed investment fund — becoming the latest, and one of the youngest, artists to cash in on their catalogues amid a boom in music licensing deals.
I have worked (a depressing number) of mass shootings as a breaking-news reporter at The Washington Post. I have never seen one where the early communication from authorities has been as opaque & hard to pin down as the #MontereyPark shooting.

10 years after "this is fine" was created, the fire has grown, the internet has made us all residents of the burning house, and the artist behind the meme is interested in happier endings. I wrote about "that dog on fire" .

Paris Mayor is in favor of restricting e-scooters for rent in the city and is organizing a public vote on the question. Back in Nov. I wrote about the movement to ban e-scooters and why it might actually succeed: washingtonpost.com/world/2022/11/

Nous avons un vrai problème avec les trottinettes en free floating. Elles encombrent les rues et le modèle n'est pas écologique. Je vais donc poser la question aux Parisiens pour savoir ce qu’ils veulent. Mon avis : on arrête. 2/3 leparisien.fr/politique/anne

Anne Hidalgo est en train de parler dans un micro. À droite est écrit le message : continue-t-on ok pas avec les trottinettes en libre-service ? Je ferai voter les Parisiens sur cette question le 2 avril prochain.

As I wrote this week, concern is building in Europe about how turmoil at Twitter will affect the platform's ability to adhere to its commitments on content moderation— the French regulator Arcom gave Twitter a deadline of TODAY to prove that it can: washingtonpost.com/technology/202

I am concerned about the news of firing of a vast amount of staff of Twitter in Europe. If you want to effectively detect and take action against #disinformation & propaganda, this requires resources. Especially in the context of 🇷🇺 disinformation warfare. ft.com/content/f9fdac

Do you love dock-free e-scooters and often use them to get around? Do you think they are a dangerous eyesore? Either way, this story is for you: Paris could be about to ban them, and the decision taken there could have global implications.
It will be interesting to see how authorities react to these explanations. In Tennessee, the consumer protection team within the Attorney General's Office has already started looking into the complaints, a spokesperson told us.
