Being poor now just leads to being more poor later. Can't pay to clean your teeth? Next year, pay for a root canal. Can't pay for a new mattress? Next year, pay for back surgery. Can't pay to get that lump checked out? Next year, pay for stage 3 cancer. Poverty charges interest.

For those that are learning that abuse has clear, definable behaviors, but that silence and enabling culture have kept us from bringing those conversations to the surface—for those that know that hasn’t protected those that find themselves victimized by others.

I could go on but my point is there’s a lot of shit that comes with publicly speaking about abuse (esp naming someone) but those, both intimately and publicly that chose to be honest about their experiences truly saved my life. They validated my experience, in totality.

They don’t fight fair. People they’ve victimized are often afraid(with reason) of what will happen once they tell the truth. What friends they will lose. Who will believe their abuser and what their abuser will do to punish them for not keeping quiet.

There’s a heap more that i’ll share when I’m ready and it makes sense. But I share this bc don’t realize the attacks that happen on survivors once we come out. Even if the abuser doesn’t have institutional support they are masters at isolation and pre-gathering defenders.

Publicly speaking about abuse has been one of the most nerve wracking/triggering experiences of my life. Between enablers outright spreading lies about me, people calling my beloveds trying to lie to them or convince them I'm lying and a host of other dirty tactics, I'm spent.
