I remember when I learned this was the practice *as part of a settlement agreement* (meaning lawyers on both sides said, "yeah, makes sense")--it astounds me every time I think about it

350,000 expulsions, $25 billion for ICE + CBP, “smart” high-tech border dystopia, abusive and unsanitary detention camps, mass migrant death as a strategy of deterrence, rocket dockets to fast-track asylum denial... So much “humane immigration reform” it’s hard to keep track...

We can and must end Title 42 and end immigration detention. One is not dependent on the other, they are both violent and inhumane policies.

Many people (advocates, the administration, Congress) are concerned that detention will be needed if Title 42 ends, but that framing just affirms the idea that people seeking asylum should be locked up. It's harmful and is the main reason Biden is refusing to reduce detention.

Incredibly alarming how much Biden's rhetoric is not being actualized in policy. He claims to not believe in family detention or private detention but is following his predecessors and using detention as a deterrence strategy against asylum seekers

Last night in Ramalla ('capital' of the Palestinian Authority) Israeli undercover unit shot dead Ahmad Fahd, from the Amari refugee camp. Israel says he was killed 'by accident'. Of course, there will be 0 accountability, and won't be reported as a breach of the ceasefire.

I wrote about how Israel has stolen Jerusalem from me. Even though I grew up in Sheikh Jarrah—a 10 minute walk from where my mom grew up—I can never live there again.

“They wanted us to do journalism in the service of IDF talking points." U.S. journalists talk about being pressured to obfuscate the truth on Palestine/Israel based on false notions of impartiality. Excellent reporting by

Wow it’s almost like it’s not about “conflicts of interest” for mainstream media orgs, and more about suppressing and vilifying any support of Palestinian human rights. This is CNN’s Jerusalem correspondent.
