It's very likely that Peng Shuai will eventually be coerced/forced into some kind of public statement on video. At that point it's important to remember CGTN's history of broadcasting 'confessions' obtained by threats and coercion, as numerous victims have testified.

I wonder if anyone is currently dissenting that putting out a video would really put this thing into overdrive, which will probably be what happens.

Agreed -- have data collection ready to go as I anticipate a bot(like) squad may have commentary on the matter.

Given how clumsy China's state-media has been, it also wouldn't surprise me if they forced her to sing and dance on video to "prove" how happy she is, like they make the Uyghurs do.

But will she compete internationally again? If she does, will she seek asylum? Will they let her leave? If they don't, the world will know it's all coerced lies.

Peter Dahlin who ran a legal aid NGO in Beijing, then was arrested, tortured, forced to “confess” on CCTV, then got CCTV banned from the UK… this week he was awarded the Magnitsky Human Rights Award for Outstanding Human Rights Activist. Relevant to where Peng’s headed

Yep...and anyone (businesses, the IOC, etc.) who want this to go away will gladly take anything that isn't totally laughable and use it as their rationale to move on.pic.twitter.com/AvsTuFSNp6

This is a lot more complicated because China's makes the situation even more fucked if they have her recant and she can't just be like jk, nvm I was never sexually assaulted...
