Also, his stories are still quite enjoyable from a dissident right perspectives, as they tend to involve protagonists who are deeply reactionary by the standards of The Culture, doing things all involved find distasteful as a necessity of maintaining civilisation.

Seriously, the protagonists of most Ian M Banks novels are regarded by The Culture with the sort of mutual antagonism that a committed medieval/classical LARPer would have in today's society.
