I don't think they ever planned for anything like this. I think it's literally an Outside Context Problem for them.

They had 17 months from the time Trump announced (and immediately jumped into a lead) until the time he actually won. Plenty of time to develop a contingency. Just stupid not to. Our military keeps plans for even absurd war scenarios.

That's why I say it's an Outside Context Problem. They literally lack the cultural context to even conceive of something like this happening, which is why they're constantly on the back foot and spluttering "Wow, just Wow".

Trump's arrival in politics is somewhat akin to Captain Cook's arrival on a Pacific Island. Yes, they could feasibly unite and take them on. Except that would require them to have a clear concept of what they're dealing with and how it works.

You’re right. What’s funny is just how out of touch the elite are. I happen to live where the elite in the US do. They genuinely don’t understand why if you go even 50 miles away, people are so different.

One easy issue for this is guns. They genuinely don’t understand how attached the average American is to guns. It’s part of American frontier identity. It would be like trying to take tea from an Englishman.

I really do need to learn to shoot, even though gun ownership is a PITA for an urban Australian. It's not quite as bad as it's made out to be. The TL;DR is you need to join a shooting club and make some friends there, first.

Yeah. Gun ownership in the anglosphere isn’t as difficult as it’s made out to be. The one reason I’ll live in the US except short stints abroad despite being a High Tory Monarchist at heart is that I love my guns and my burgers.

I'm of the opinion that gun ownership is a very High Tory thing indeed. How can you properly serve your king if you don't know how to shoot his enemies?

The militia was formed to serve the king. Seems to me every able bodied man must be able to take up arms in defense of the king and their own personal security. It’s an English tradition.
