Dude, I know 40 year olds who are dating 19 year olds. Close your eyes and take the zoomer pill, especially if you ever want to have children.https://twitter.com/IrishLarper/status/1053743224328724481 …

Bizarrely, I ended up becoming the de facto family patriarch because I was just the most involved in family affairs and my older brother never stopped resenting that. Seemed to think he was just entitled to that role, despite focusing almost his entire energy on the business.
-
If I'd just sat back and let him keep that role, for the sake of his ego, the family would have fallen apart.

Family's always the biggest barrier towards starting your own life. I had troubles of that on my own, since over here, it's a bit close to Italian culture, where you're supposed to keep your family close for life. Never give up on building something of your own, though.

Well, I'm a big fan of the clannish stem family approach. My siblings aren't. They're determined to do the nuclear family thing and haven't figured out that's unnecessarily difficult, instead of us all just working together.
-
I would be a fan as well if I got along with my larger family. Having a bond with a ton of great people you're related to sounds great, as long as they're not constants in your life.
-
Well yeah, you gotta have and respect boundaries. Just annoys me they never consult me on anything. Instead, I've gotta do shuttle diplomacy through my mother.

It's just that the codependency of alot of families tends to get out of control in many situations, so it's best to break away and start a clan anew. In your situation, you have to become (in their eyes) someone they can respect and look up to. Not easy.
-
Yeah, it's a work in progress.
