Well, shit, there goes my non-piracy option. Time to look at alts like GoG.
GoG and Humble are pretty solid, in my experience.
Too bad I've sunk hundreds into Steam already. That's going to be a nice sword of damocles for a while. Oh well, right? Too much of a gaming habit is bad for you anyways.
Diversifying your holdings is always a good strategy.
treating game library services as stocks, the absolute absurdity of this timeline.
I suspect so. Especially if you attempt to renegotiate and they just flat out refuse.
Just like Steam. And Origin And http://B.Net And GoG And Virtual Console Yeah, they all pull this shit.
Fair enough.
I didnt even know they had a store I dont even trust em to handle my password much less my cc info I mean...i even sandboxie the browser its in....i lack faith in their security...
Also not a lawyer but when you buy something virtual or physical and you have documention proving that you bought it then it's legally yours right? Wouldn't taking that away (unless you broke their tos in wich they state that your acc might be removed) be stealing on their part?
Not always The argument can be made that your payment for a digital game/product can be considered a "lease" not a buy Which is a fine line to walk, but like being banned from overwatch there is no legal obligation to refund your money if writtten in tos or whatever
Yeah I had something like that in mind too but with renten not leasing (wich are basically the same thing as far as I know) but they would have to state that it is renting/leasing and not buying or they could get in legal trouble regardless (atleast in the eu)
The laws regarding digital property is a weird one I have little to no brain rn so its hard to explain But i think it comes down to purchasing a license to use said property vs owning it
I used to know a little bit about it but that knowledge is long gone but I think they would have to clearly state that it's a license(if it is one) like they do at Adobe
