Written communication is also important if you're a remote employee, or communicate with customers/coworkers who don't share an office with you.

It's tempting to say "but this really is simple!" It may be to you, experienced tech person. But not to a beginner, or someone who hasn't touched this tech in a while, or somebody who's having a bad day. Putting yourself in the learner's place is hard, but also an obligation.

Hint: think which one goes with "more likely to underfit" and which with "more likely to overfit" when training a model.

Thinking about why something like this may be true is a good data science learning exercise 😊

Attention students: We are also looking for 5 minute student lightning talks, so please submit talk proposals about your research projects, too! (you can pick both 5 and 15 minutes if you would be willing to do either). The new deadline is 2/1.

The details on the methods and population are usually at the bottom of the linked file when you see polls mentioned in articles

Also interesting for this one I happened to see just now - if you read about the polling methods, most were called via landline, and a full 1/3 of respondents are from Amazon Mechanical Turk.

I've been telling people to keep an eye on the Margins of Error on these polls. I've seen some as high as +-6% on the key population mentioned in the headline. At least this one has theirs in their graphic, that's always good to see labeled.

I mean to link to the conference website (above is the link directly to the proposal form, which is also at the "Apply to Speak" button on the main site)
