Help stats gurus! Am reviewing a paper: N=24 w 7 2x2x2x2 RM anovas reporting 4-way interactions (& no correction for mult comparisons). ISO authoritative source to cite in support of statement that N = 24 is way underpowered for 3 and 4-way within-subject interactions. thx!

I don't think n=24 is underpowered in principle, could be ok for large enough effect sizes. But the lack of multiple comparison corrections is a problem, unless specific interaction is predicted. Thanks and fair enough -- but they would have needed to do an a priori power analysis and have a really good rationale for expecting a huge 4-way no? And this study is VERY exploratory.
