I have FINALLY ranked all of #StarWars based on screen time for women. This is now canon. Don't @ me. 43% Last Jedi 37% Force Awakens 35% Rogue One 23% Return of the Jedi 22% Empire Strikes Back 20% Phantom Menace 18% Attack of the Clones 17% Revenge of the Sith 15% A New Hope

Obviously the list won't include #SoloAStarWarsStory until it's available to buy. I actually think it might score reasonably well, although it doesn't pass the Bechdel test (the other Disney films do BUT BARELY)

And OF COURSE I'm really sorry to score your fav A New Hope last, I really am, and I thought the prequels were awful too BUT @rianjohnson wins here for giving women almost equal screen time and TLJ passing the Bechdel test more than once. Them's the rules so...

Also if you want to know how long it took me to edit all the men out of Star Wars you're welcome to ask but you might be alarmed at my Star Wars/feminist nerdiness... so we can maybe keep that a secret

So this Star Wars women thing blew up (and you all @-ed me after all...) but seeing as lots of people have asked questions about the methodology, I've written a short explanation for you here http://www.writingonreels.uk/blog

Dang I wish I would have guessed how this would have resulted before I saw this list! I don’t think I would have done well though somehow. I would have for sure guessed Sith last and had Empire lower.

I was surprised by Empire too, especially as Leia doesn't have especially memorable solo scenes. But she's in almost every sequence aside from ones with Luke/Vader. ROTS and ANH are pretty close!

Strange that the prequels decrease even though Padme becomes mildly more important. And also that Rogue One is 35% even with a female protagonist (albeit an extremely passive one).

Padme gets less and less screen time, and there's no Shmi/Beru in 3. In RO there are only 5 women with speaking parts (and some are 1 line) vs 11 in TFA and at least 14 in TLJ (plus RO positions us as Jyn but is really an ensemble cast)

Did you gender porgs, vupltex and other creatures, or is this % of screen time featuring humoids?

Porgs and vulptex could be any gender so I left them in. But droids and aliens with speaking parts/names are all gendered within the Star Wars universe so if in doubt I went with the Wookieepedia entry
