Just wouldn’t be available to those who wanted to rent them.

What if those 4.5 million homes were all owner occupied as opposed to an nth property of the owner? How would that affect the affordability of housing?
-
It would make renting impossible, which you’ll find many renters will disagree with you on.

Landlords don't provide anything. They restrict access to a human right using the power of the state. If all landlords were to disappear, the houses would still be there.
-
Just not available to rent, right?

You clearly have no idea of what goes into it. As for the houses, they’d still be there, but you seem to be ignoring the fact that the families who want to rent wouldn’t be able to live in them.

Landlords don’t “provide” homes, if you disappeared those homes would still be there, as would the architects and builders and engineers who built them (you know, people who contribute to society). The point is the party of the working class consulted landlords, not tenants.
