I remember sitting in the audience at the debates. when he said it people were shocked. some laughed because it was so odd. my friend, who is very much on the left, whispered in my ear - "he's insane! no one will vote for this fool!"

Most didn't vote for him. The majority voted for the other moderate choices and Chesa slipped in thanks to rank choice voting with only 68k votes in a city of 850k people.

Every political group I am in fired off warnings. I talked to many democrat friends and strangers. Voters, many middle class and parents, really did understand. This was a time when woke rhetoric spoken during the Trump derangement era was powerful and working.
