First World country too dumb to understand science thinks Webb Telescope photos are fake or manipulated but fervently believes white man from Middle East is real and created everything, even fake science-y things like the universe.
Life is a balancing act. Life comes at ya fast. A story.

Lots of random goodness. Emphasis on random. Been a while teasing it out on Twitter and this post is free so I thought I would pester once again. Or politely update, if you will.

Was I above posting about the Best and Worst TV Moms on Mother's Day? I was not. Hoo-boy. Some good comments.
This post is free. You can subscribe to free or paid posts. It's easy. Love to your Mothers.
You bring your redneck Trump shit to Oakland and you’re gonna get got. Watch what happens when the middle school kids show up. Better aim. More velo.
And they came to Rockridge to not get shot for real. 🤣
You can set a clock by these once revered, raging, “ballsy” angry, intellectual provocateurs turning into predictably offensive old white dudes like David Mamet who feel their status challenged. Maybe less reverence & more cynicism is needed in those early media darling days.
Very recent posts; thoughts on:
"Pachinko"
"Slow Horses"
A book about a woman who decides to go to Finland to kill her husband.
Come on over. There's free and paid content. (Paid subscribers get hugs, back rubs, a free pony, things of that nature).
In honor of "Drive My Car" and because, well, it's just so fucking useful, I've decided to respond to lengthy things people tell me by saying, "I see."
As a reminder, sweet talking about TV and culture.
Today: Drive My Car.
Wrapped up some rewatches, fell in love with the British Utopia, dissected Belfast, fawned over The French Dispatch. And Formula 1: Drive to Survive.
Come have a look.
Why, yes, I *did* use my daughter's cute dog as the photo on my AMA today. I never said I wasn't shameless. It's an ask me anything -- you could have asked if I was shameless. Me: "Yes."
Also, it's a super cute doge.
Responding all week. Also: Hi.
Thoughts on:
"Belfast"
"The French Dispatch"
"The King's Man"
"The great resignation"
A show about that.
"Formula 1: Drive to Survive"
"Counterpart"
"The End of the F***ing World"

ICYMI: I recently joined the great rush of writers to Substack. There's a lot of shit going on at my place. Come check it out.
Thanks to everyone who has subscribed and continues to (there's free and paid).
Via email, site, app. Whatever works for you.
It had a unique premise, a compelling and fast-moving story that took espionage thrillers in a new direction and just had great writing, acting and directing throughout -- so many smart decisions piling on top of each other. And a fantastic wink to "Utopia" that I now get...
Rewatching "Counterpart" as a part of a TV club thing at the Substack and it's just another reminder how many great decisions that show made. I mean, J.K. Simmons was brilliant, obviously, but the whole show is criminally under-watched/appreciated.
Greetings, East Coasters & early birds.
Here's what's going on for TV & Culture lovers:
1. The brilliance of the British "Utopia."
2. Deconstructions of The End Of the F***ing World, Station Eleven, Counterpart.
3. Random shit.
Cool. Subscribe. Share.
It’s fascinating to me that a non-fiction series about racing is probably the best drama on television. But it is. If you haven’t seen it, start on S1. Even if you don’t like racing or cars you’ll be hooked. And the S2 shift shows you the influence of this series on the sport.
I'm sitting here looking at "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" like a kid staring at the biggest present under the Christmas tree. But the world being shit and all, I'm thinking I should save/savor it. Break glass when desperate, as it were.
Today:
Tragedy of British "Utopia" series being canceled. That show rewired my brain, as I explain.
Recent:
Deconstructions of Station Eleven, Counterpart, The End of the F***ing World, Collateral.

A bunch of other shit. Subscribe. Spread. OK, cool.
And yet, they were *going* to give him life in the live action series, right? I just thought it might be cool for him to fuck shit up with that dual lightsaber or double-edged or whatever. But that's just me -- always looking for havoc.
Well he ceased being a Darth once he wasn’t a part of the Sith, but since they gave him a solid arc in all of the Clone Wars stuff, I don’t think it’s a huge thing they didn’t do a new live action run on the character, especially with them leaning on the inquisitors instead
Well, I'm just glad you're here. That explains...part of it. I mean, I used to watch the Clone Wars ages ago but I can barely remember who made the beans in my pour over from this morning, so I'll take your word for it.
I hate getting nerdbaited, but on the assumption someone might be reading this and unaware: The animated Star Wars universe that’s already in line with the shows addressed this story beautifully.
