I know this thread is petty but I'm just tired and I'm honestly worried about the prospect of going further with my critique of the BOLO project. If you know any Canadian academics then feel free to tag them or send the original post to them. I already did the hard part for you

This exact thing happened in Edmonton with carding. We filed a FOIP, got the data, and fought police. I didn't take any pay but guess who did? The researches who were parachuted in from Vancouver and awarded 100K in funding to double check our data.

My experience is that this groundwork is often left to people like me who have no research dollars or academic support. Instead we do the hard work, and take the public hits. Then they'll come in a few years later with a 6 figure research project that confirms what we knew.

These billboards are all over the downtown core and the inner city. Literally anyone from an academic background should have looked at those billboards and went "hmm" I mean isn't critiquing this project a slam dunk? A mercenary is literally placing bounties on peoples heads lol

My experience has been that the white people that (mostly) make up criminology, sociology, political science grad programs / faculty don't see things like this as real. They spend so much time focusing on the US that they hardly look at the dystopia facing people like me.

Canadian academics frustrate me because they should be doing most of the groundwork researching the BOLO program.
