  1. Goede visualisatie.

Samen.

Evidence shows we're on course for extreme flooding, fires, famines, and the loss of a livable habitat for humans & animals. This urgency was felt by civil society more than by negotiators. We have a year to bring the demands of people to the negotiation table in Egypt!

  5. Deal done. In a UN global consensus world, the deal offers progress and puts pressure on all countries to do more. In the real world outside, the urgency of this climate crisis demands more. The gap between politics and the streets is accelerating the most tbh.

  6. And this explains the solution on loss&damage. No change in text; but a considerable contribution by Germany.

  8. But will para 36 still change. That's the question....

  9. Dat duurde nog even. Laatste poging om tekst op fossiel af te zwakken (van India en China). Plenaire gaat zo beginnen. Onduidelijk of tekst toch nog gaat schuiven.

  10. Glasgow Climate Pact…. Para 36 intact gebleven. Deal op Rulebook is ook rond. Closing plenaire lijkt te kunnen beginnen. Deal is bijna daar.

  11. Informele plenaire zit erop. Formele plenaire gaat zo beginnen. Publicatie Eindtekst vlak ervoor. Vooral nog goed kijken naar Artikel 6 Rulebook Parijs. Daar zal waarschijnlijk nog het meest veranderd zijn. Rest lijkt gelijk te blijven. Grote vraag hoe para 36 op fossils zal zijn

List of countries seeking changes to the fossil subsidies text is looking increasingly like the roll-call at an OPEC meeting.

This new bit of the draft Cover Decision is getting more & more attention 👇 Let's try to understand what does it mean exactly...

Claim that 1.5 Celsius remains within reach can be done, but fully depends on short-term action. That battle is moved to next year. On fossils the elephant is finally mentioned, but the exact wording is utterly weak. See at it as a hook to work on after Glasgow. (3/3)

A process on long-term finance with more attention to adaptation and strong push to deliver the 100 billion by 2022 (promised in 2009 for 2020); further steps on Loss&damage; and pressure on mitigation to increase action this decade, already new plans requested next year. (2/3)

Expect many hours of finetuning with changes here and there. We might get some drama on loss&damage still, but the deal starts becoming visible: A closed Rulebook with worst double-counting prevented but not as strong as it could; (1/3)

Text on unabated coal and inefficient fossil fuel subsidies weakened further again: now we commit to accelerate efforts towards phase-out. In previous version we accelerated the phase-out itself. I will have to accelerate my personal effort not to get cynical.

New texts have arrived. Not many major changes. For next year a work programme needs to be decided to urgently scale up mitigation this decade and by end of 2022 updated NDCs for 2030 targets need to be there. Probably the best possible outcome: another year of pressure needed…

One of the joys of the UN process is media holding diplomats to account in a way they are not at home. Great work
