YouTube has actively decided to not pay video game composers. Game music is not considered acceptable for Content ID, meaning composers cannot get paid what they are owed. YouTube needs to do better. #gameaudio #gamemusic https://creatoracademy.youtube.com/page/lesson/cid-references#strategies-zippy-link-2 …pic.twitter.com/ptr8IuqV0F

YouTube now displays song credits for songs used/licensed in videos. Unfortunately these are metadata delivered to Content ID. @YouTube @TeamYouTube @youtubemusic does not consider video game music nor its creators worth attributing; and excludes their credits (and royalties.)pic.twitter.com/sfjOyzNRcU

So, @BanjoGuyOllie had a bit with his interview of @BarryLeitch about how he registers through CDBaby as publisher. (I suspect this is because CDBaby doesn't check whether a submission is eligible via YouTube's rules but *sips tea* that's none of my business.)

Yeah but he also specified that this is contract specific with the employer at the time. It's a mess because not all composers thought about specifying licensing agreements to retain ownership of their content. I don't think youtube has an easy job on this one,

Yeah they do.. It's called treating game music the same as every other genre of music. It's that simple. There are mechanisms in place to cover fair usage, and worst case scenario is YouTube has to improve their customer service.

I also always wondered if composers do actually get some income from the tunes we licence on platforms like soundrop ? I'd be surprised if that was the case

For Soundrop/cover licenses through Loudr: yes, for the most part. If the cover is sold on iTunes US, the royalty is passed through. For Spotify streams, sales in Germany, Pandora plays -- composers have the obligation to ensure their catalogs and works are registered everywhere
