I work within the Aviation Industry and it is common for crew to ask people to move in order for the plane to be balanced correct. This is why some do get moved to the front or back of the plane depending in where extra weight is needed.

Once again, if you only knew a pilot to ask about why they do these things...BTW, has nothing to do with it being a MAX. All planes....
