Still can't believe Friends, a grounded sitcom about a group of 20-somethings navigating jobs and relationships, threw a MONKEY into the show in THEIR FIRST SEASON! They hadn't even begun to run out of gas yet and they thought, "monkey."

I heard the monkey was offered his own spinoff after the first season, left the show to do it, only for it to be cancelled before the pilot ever aired. Most of his planned story arc for Friends' second season was given to the Joey character.
I only started watching that show because of the monkey.
