I have almost a million subscribers and over 750 videos and they rarely show up as suggested. It comes down to upload frequency, retention, keywords & relevance. It’s frustrsting, I know.

retention is not that important. it is multifactorial, as you said and you can be blocked from ever being suggested if video is outside of what the algorithm believes the main topic of your channel is or outside of the interest of your channel's main demographic

Also, rentention of percentage of video watched are very important. All my videos that perform well and get the most views have much higher retention (percentage of time watched relative to video length) however the algorithm is constantly changing and I’m not keeping up with it

I also think the algorithm now suggests vids based on computer analysis of your thumbnail. it has a "this is a catchy thumbnail" image ranking algorithm

What is appealing in a thumbnail is univerally subjective from a machine learning perspective. However sex is a primal instinct and YouTubes core demographic is males age 14-28 which are going to click on images of a sexually appealing nature without even reading the video title.

That's not what I mean. I am highly confident in my observations. A multifactorial analysis of our content algorithmically strongly determines performance, which now includes the analysis and grading of the visual components

Okay? Glad you’re confident. Now go game the algorithm since you understand it and prove you’re right. Would make an excellent series!

I meant "confident" as in highly convinced. I cannot turn that into a series as I have many content obligations that are more on-brand. I am merely reporting observations.

Darn, that would have made an epic series and it would have been highly relevant since other frustrated people would be searching those keywords and phrases and not getting a lot back. Being in a unique demographic helps as much as being in a hugely popular one.
