    Saw this in the hallway outside of Ms. Miller’s classroom and had to share! I love all the ways she empowers her students to be kind! They are creating a “chain reaction” when they share kindness with one another!

    Ha! Love this. Been done! My students absolutely loved and the conversations afterword were to rich and attached to the interpretation of the pictures was based on personal experiences, feelings and inherited stories . It was powerful!

    A3: When we hosted Math Nights, I always had a read-aloud station. SO many books fit into math and other subjects!

    A2b: At my former school, we invited writers from the Jr. High back to come read their creations to our younger kids. Win-win to have alum return as role models to engage their young fans!

    A2 With technology you can give the kids pictures and have them create their own story books about the pictures. I will sometimes post a picture of a and ask the kids to create a math problem about it.

    Q2 Often times, picture books are reserved for read alouds with junior elementary grades. How can we use picture books to supplement and drive learning in middle school and high school by transforming people's viewpoints about the purpose of reading?

    A2: I will never understand why we stop reading to/with kids of any age. One things I have admired about is his insatiable desire to keep his HS kiddos engaged with picture books! When I was in HS, I performed picture books thru storytelling competitions.

    A1: What I find when it's time to read is LET THE KIDS TALK. When we dig in and encourage them to imagine how the characters in the story are feeling and what they want or need, then we elevate in ways that we can't even imagine!
