Democrats are split on Bush because on the one hand he did the whole Iraq and Afghanistan wars. On the other he let in a bunch of "Guest workers" and wasn't very strong on border control. A lot of those guest workers just decided to stay, BTW. They weren't allowed to, but *shrug*https://twitter.com/RealTimers/status/1059520828440686595 …

Yes absolutely, but they spent all of dubya's two terms vilifying him to the ends of the earth over Iraq so now they look like idiots praising him for his immigration policies or w/e.

I don't mind these shills coming out of the woodwork to praise Bush. It puts the lie to the notion of left-right partisanship. When supposedly far-left comedians and commentators suck off a supposedly "far right warmonger" dubya on corporate TV you know they're on the same side.

He came out against Trump and they all decided that was enough to use him as a political tool against the president. Million Iraqis spinning in their graves.

The corporate oligarchy fears a nationalist and an outsider more than almost anything else. They'd rather rehabilitate a war criminal than concede that maybe, just maybe, prioritising national interests doesn't make you Hitler 2.0.

Bush was around the time when things started going sour. It wasn't just the wars, although I'm sure those didn't help. Bush was around the time when things really started picking up steam in importing goods from China. It was increasing, but it got kicked into overdrive.

The global financial crisis also started during his tenure, thanks in part to financial deregulation by Bush and his predecessor Clinton. Likewise, NAFTA. But of course these are all things out corporate overlords love so not a peep out of them about it.

The globalism and unfettered capitalism was just sucking America dry and it continued through Obama's term. The stock market recovered, but the average person never has.

I wouldn't even call it capitalism more like corporatism.

Yeah capitalism in it's purest form requires competition and choice. The more the government controls things with trade deals and such, the less choice you have. Choice is key.

But I'm not really sure you could ever have much of a choice in global trade, which is why I generally don't care for it. I would prefer if we severely limited imports.

Especially when you have the resources to make your own stuff in the first place. People are always so worried about global warming yet have no reservations about buying goods that have been shipped thousands of miles just chugging out the carbon.
